Flickr Serendipity: Yes, it is a river trash collector!

I added this photo to Flickr after UPA back in June, with the title “What is this – a river trash collector?”. This week I got an answer.

natlaquarium added this comment, answering my question:

That’s exactly what it is! “The solar-powered Water Wheel Powered Trash Inceptor, installed in February, has been known to collect up to seven tons of trash after just one storm.”

From our recent blog entry: http://nationalaquarium.wordpress.com/2008/08/06/harbor-trash-wheel-makes-a-difference/

This is pretty cool on two counts: that this thing really does collect and remove trash from the river AND that Flickr got me an answer.

  1. That’s totally cool! Do you see it in Baltimore?

  2. Yes – it was right next to my hotel for the UPA conference.
